You’re moving and there is a distinct lack of boxes in which to safely transport your belongings. This is a familiar problem for a lot of people. Gone are the days when a lot of us kept a store of old boxes for any occasion. A disposable society, and a need to maximise living space, mean that the practice has become much less regular.
So what should you do if you are searching for boxes for your home move? You may think “that’s easy”, you can just buy them online. Put “house moving boxes” into a search engine and you will see this is an option, but it’s not the only one.
The online option
It may not be the only option but it’s a simple one, whether you buy a few boxes on eBay or opt for one of the StorePAK moving house sets of boxes from retailers such as Argos, you can do all the hard work from the comfort of your own home.
This has the benefit of being easy at a time when you can definitely do without any additional hassle. The down side is that it costs money; the 3-4 bedroom house StorePAK is priced at £59.99 at Argos, at time of writing. You may of course be willing to pay for the convenience but you should consider that it’s unlikely you will keep the boxes after the move as they will take up too much room.
The removal firm
If you are using a removal firm to relocate your property you may find that they will provide packing materials for you; this is a common practice but often comes at a price. A lot of firms have flexible packing options from basic provision of materials to pay as they pack, and even a full backing and removal service so that you don’t have to do any of the work. If you want to avoid all the work, and you trust others to pack your belongings, this may be something you feel is worth paying for.
Save money and recycle
If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on packaging you don’t have to; put in a bit of effort and you can pack to move free of charge. Your local supermarket receives goods in boxes all the time and then has to dispose of the packaging when the produce is placed on the shelves; boxes used for transporting packets of crisps have lots of room in them and are ideal. You may have to spend a small amount of money of some packing tape if the boxes have already been flattened, to get them back into shape. Go to the customer service point at the supermarket and they will help you locate any boxes that they have, or tell you when it’s best to call in to get some.
So you have a choice when it comes to boxes for moving whether it’s convenience at a cost you want, or free boxes you’re recycling with just a little more effort.
